BRACE OF CARWOW AWARDS FOR TOYOTA

Reflecting the breadth, depth and renewed excitement of its 2019 range, Toyota has collected both the sought-after Manufacturer Award and the Driver’s Award at this year’s carwow awards ceremony.

Claiming the top spot in the Driver’s Award category – voted for by carwow’s editorial team and influenced by its millions of readers and viewers – is the all-new GR Supra. Hitting showrooms just weeks ago, GR Supra’s arrival heralds the resurrection of a Toyota icon that has wowed sports car enthusiasts for the past forty years.

Developed in partnership with Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s motorsport division, GR Supra was designed to offer buyers a sports car in its purest form, focused solely on driving pleasure. Editorial director at carwow, Mat Watson, agrees that the car delivers wholeheartedly on that design promise:

“Great drivers’ cars aren’t all about acceleration figures, top speeds and lap times. They’re about how they make you feel and few are as exciting as the Supra. The way it looks and sounds, its performance and rear-driven nature all make you smile.”

2019 has been a significant year for Toyota, with a number of new cars arriving. The next generation RAV4 offers the latest in self-charging hybrid technology to the SUV buyer and the resurrection of the Corolla marque – available in hatchback and Touring Sports form – delivers a versatile and economical vehicle that appeals to commuters, families and business drivers alike.

Mat Watson highlighted Toyota’s all-round appeal to car buyers, in awarding the best manufacturer accolade:

“Toyota is known for building dependable and economical cars. But now they are exciting too. The C-HR, Corolla and RAV4 look great, are good to drive and sit in and deliver impressive economy.  Then there’s the new Supra which is just awesome – and comes with a five-year warranty. In short, the latest Toyotas are cars you can buy with your head as well as your heart.”

Andrew Cullis, Toyota director, communications and product, sees the double award win as one that shows Toyota as heading in exactly the right direction:

“It’s fantastic to be recognised for the economical nature of the cars across our range. Toyota’s self-charging hybrid powertrain is offered for the vast majority of our cars and hybrid now accounts for almost 60 per cent of Toyota car sales in the UK. That said, the Driver’s Award for GR Supra is just as satisfying for us. Alongside Toyota’s industry-leading efforts on reducing emissions, GR Supra embodies the passion for motorsport and the enthusiasm for driving that still runs through our veins.”
